Launch control with DSG is super fun. It’s actually decent on gas, much to my surprise, and farting shifts will never get old. It’s an ideal car for exploring Detroit, as I’ve experienced!

I don’t think I’d like this car with a manual as I did with the DSG. It just felt right.....until someone has to pony up the money for that DSG maintenance.

My dealer quoted that the DSG transmission service would be cheaper than a torque converter service, although it is more frequent and would be the same over 100k miles. I think there may be some other cost in the life of the DSG, though.

Never keep a VW that long unless it’s a bus/van. These mk5/6/7's are to be used and traded in for a new one

Please, do tell what the hell is a “torque converter service”? Because those are pretty much good for the life of the car....

Ha ok, that makes a hell of a lot more sense.

It looks like the wisdom of the internet says that the clutches will last more than 200,000 miles, although the dual mass flywheel (DMF) may need to be replaced about 200k for the DSG dual clutch gearbox.

Yea, clutches in an auto trans should last a long time as there are more of them to take the torque/heat of each shift.
